Sports have been popular from the earliest times. In our age, when machines have reduced the working hours, more and more people are turning to sports. Sports are new regarded as an essential part of a full and happy life. They bring pleasure and interest to life in many ways they promote physical fitness. Provide recreation and cultivate some desirable qualities like discipline, co-operation, and subordination of individual mterests to collective responsibility. It has been recognized by almost all people that a healthy body is a great blessing.7 the prillllitive8 man had to by strong and active to face the hostile9 nature and survive.10 the very nature of his occupation. That is hunting, was such that he had to do a lot of hard physical work. It has also been realized that physical exercise keeps the body fit and healthy. The Greek philosophers believed that a healthy body was necessary for a healthy mind in our times. A very large number of men and women are not called upon. In the course of their professional work. To do really hard physical work. But they must be physically fit if they are to perform their duties honestly and efficiently.11so they play games they play games that give them sufficient exertion to keep the body in proper health. Sports also provide recreation. They are play as opposed to work. They are played not because one has to play whether one likes or not, but they pleasure. They help one to forget work and worries. They refresh us and give us Zest for life. In this age of mad rush and sick hurry. Sports are certainly necessary for mental health. Most of the sports are group activities. They are played according to some rules. The players have to cooperate with their team mates and play as the rules of the game demand. They have to adjust themselves to the need of the team. They have to play as the situation and the interests of the team demand. In international sport competitions sport men take part not so much for individual glory as for winning honour for their team or country above all. Players are required to play a clean game. A true sportsman will never think of cheating. In this way, sports develop highly desirable and valuable in men and women.
