what is object oriented programming and for what purpose we use it?

Object Oriented Programming is used to develop software systems. Although we have another approach for this purpose which is Structured Programming but OOP is very close to real world scenario as compared to Structured approach. OOP also facilitate us in many other ways like Reusing , maintaining and easy development of software systems that is not available in Structured Programming.
OOP develops Software based on Objects and object may be an existing entity or concept in the real world, so in such a way it looks easy for developers and analyst to understand the software requirments and easy to model these requirments as compared to other approach.
