what is the difference between Java and Java 2EE

Java is a programming language whereas J2EE (Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition) is a platform for developing web based enterprise applications in the Java programming language. The Java EE Platform differs from the J2SE (Java 2 Platform Standard Edition) in that it adds libraries which provide functionality to deploy distributed, multi-tier Java software. J2SE (Java 2 Platform Standard Edition) is a widely used platform for programming in the Java language. It is the Java Platform used to deploy portable applications for general use. In practical terms, Java SE consists of a virtual machine, which must be used to run Java programs.
